Difficulty: Virtuoso

Mikhail Glinka’s Viola Sonata is an interesting piece in the repertoire. The first movement is truly unique for Russian music at this time, showing both a classical sensibility and a sense of romantic storminess. The second movement is similarly unique with its two contrasting sections. The work, however, was never completed by Glinka, and all that we are left of the planned third movement are a few sketches.
