Biography

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the best-known composers of all time, and his compositions have had a significant impact on the world of classical music. Born in Salzburg in 1756, Mozart showed musical talent from a young age, writing his first compositions at the age of five and giving performances before royalty as a child. At the age of 17, Mozart became engaged as a musician at the Salzburg court but grew restless, travelling in search of a better position.

Mozart settled in Vienna, and achieved fame but little financial security. Most of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas were written during his time in Vienna. Mozart composed more than 600 works, though died suddenly at the age of 35 whilst in Prague for the premiere of a new opera. Immediately after his death, public interest in his work began to grow, and his music has remained a staple of the classical repertoire ever since.
