Biography

German double bass player Christine Hoock studied with Günter Klaus in Frankfurt and with Franco Petracchi in Geneva, completing her studies with distinction. From early on in her career Christine Hoock captivated audiences as a soloist, orchestral player, and chamber musician. She was appointed principal bass of the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln at a young age and also played with a number of other major German orchestras, working with renowned conductors such as André Previn, Günter Wand, Pinchas Zukermann, Sir Neville Marriner and Semyon Bychkov.

Christine Hoock is in high demand internationally both as a soloist and chamber music partner. She has performed at festivals as the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Lucerne Festival, San Sebastian Festival, KlangBogen Wien, Festival de Música de Canarias, the Festivals in Berlin and Salzburg and the Oficina de Música Curitiba. Concert tours have taken her to Japan, China, the USA, South America, Europe, and Russia.

Musicians she has worked with include Barbara Bonney, TThe Hagen Quartet, Alexander Trostiansky, Enrico Bronzi, Quadro Nuevo, and John Goldsby. During her studies, Christine Hoock founded the Frankfurter Kontrabass Quartett, which built an international reputation thanks to its numerous concerts, as well as its recordings for radio, television, and the CD Quattro Contra Bassi. She is also a member of Duo Piasso with the pianist Barbara Nussbaum. Christine has had many new compositions for double bass dedicated to her.

Christine Hoock taught at the Robert Schumann Music College in Düsseldorf and at the Folkwang University in Essen. She is now professor of double bass at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. In addition to her busy concert schedule, Chrstine regularly holds masterclasses at many international summer academies and festivals and is a jury member at a number of international competitions. She has supported many young players through her work with the International Society of Bassists,Tchaikovsky Conservatory and Gnesin Academy Moscow, Jugend Musiziert youth competition in Germany, Jeunesses Musicales, and the European Union Youth Orchestra.

Christine Hoock has made several recordings in collaboration with European radio stations. Her solo CDs Le Phénix - Solo double bass in Baroque and Contemporary Music, Bassa Nova, Contrabajisimo, and worldwidebass are available worldwide. She has also produced a play-along practice CD of the Dittersdorf Concerto for students.
